5 local Brunswick artists were invited to respond to archival objects in the creation of new artworks exploring the remnant impacts of collected histories. My work, 'Curtain Call' was created in response to the decline of the theatres and cinemas of Brunswick which were used from 1909 to 1980. From the humble Oxford Theatre to the grandeur of the Padua cinema these venues provided an escape from the drudgery of working life, going to the 'flicks' became a weekly event for many families before the introduction of television around the 1950's heralded the end of the theatres reign.

 

5 kiln formed panels of buildings and performers are surrounded by optical glass disks containing printed images of Brunswick residents sourced from the Moreland archives, many who would have lived around the time the theatres were in operation.
